Samsung is going to release an official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware update for the Galaxy S4 Snapdragon 600 variant this week which includes fix of major issues, new camera firmware, and HDR video and additional icons.

The upcoming update will become available first for the Snapdragon 600 version of Galaxy S4 and eventually going to be rolled out to the Exynos 5 octa-core variant. Major bug fixes and major issues are repaired on the said update for the device.

Android 4.2.2 firmware update for Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 includes the following:

  • Apps now movable to the external memory
  • Secure boot status allowed
  • Increased legibility
  • Major bug fixes
  • Repair on several issues reported

According to SamMobile, Germany would be the first area to obtain the update and eventually other markets in the later part of 2013. The official Samsung Galaxy S4 can be received via Over-the-Air procedure or through Samsung Kies PC Suite. Android 4.2.2 latest firmware has a size of 365.67MB.

Over-the-Air Update

1. Go to "Settings"

2. Select "About Phone"

3. Tap on "Software Updates"

4. Then click on "Check for Updates"

If there are any updates prompted to you, make sure you create a backup first of all your personal settings, information and data files on your phone. Connect the device to its AC power and stable Wi-Fi connection to prevent any interruption.

Samsung Kies PC Suite

1. Download the software from the Samsung Web site.

2. Install it on your computer.

3. Launch the Samsung Kies on your computer.

4. Connect your Samsung Galaxy S4 to your computer using a USB cable.

5. Be patient as the computer installs all necessary drivers.

6. Once the PC Suite prompts an update, follow all necessary procedure to backup your personal settings and data files. You may also manually backup other files not detected by the suite.

7. Follow the steps provided for you by the software.

Note: Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 running custom ROMs are not going to receive this update. If you desire the official firmware update, revert it back to its original stock ROM.
