Sprint users of the Samsung Galaxy S5 is now receiving a new OTA update but still runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat. Leaked information reveals that Android 4.4.3 update is due last month while Android 4.4.4 remains unknown. Will Samsung upgrade Galaxy S5 straight to Android L?

New Update from Sprint

Network carrier Sprint is now rolling out a new Over the Air update for the Samsung Galaxy S5. It is still running Android 4.4.2 KitKat with build number G900PVPU1ANE5. According to the official change logs from the network provider, this new Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Galaxy S5 will bring enhancements and fixes to the Wi-Fi calling service support.

One user replied to Sprint's post and asked for the rest of the change log details. mmark271 inquired the following essential enhancements on the Galaxy S5:

- Camera launching responsiveness which was received by the International variant

- Bluetooth connectivity with car kits

- Network issues using Bluetooth calling support

- Low signal bar display

- New radio firmware

Dj_Damjano replied on the inquiry that other Galaxy S5 especially the European models have certain differences from others including the processor. The user also claims that not all Galaxy S5 are suffering from issues on Bluetooth pairing connection with a car or headsets.

Android 4.4.3 KitKat Completed

Last month, GSMArena reported a leaked document referring the stages of Android 4.4.3 KitKat firmware for Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3. The document revealed that the Android 4.4.3 software for Galaxy S5 Snapdragon and Exynos variants are complete and expected to be released in June 2014.

However, the Android 4.4.3 KitKat remains unreleased and there is no official timeframe for July 2014.

Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.3 KitKat update has reached final testing status according to the leaked document while Android 4.4.4 KitKat firmware remains unknown at this time.

Firmware Jump

It won't be the first time for Samsung to skip on an OS version in favour of the most recent. Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 was not officially released due to the new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware.

Eventually the company pushed developed a firmware version running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with various enhancements and fixes. In case a jump may happen again, here are some possible reasons why:

- Android 4.4.4 KitKat is the final version of its generation, not Android 4.4.3.

- Android 4.4.4 features a major bug fix for the OpenSSL vulnerability.

- Both Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3 are eligible for Android L update.
