Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S4 Android 5.0, Android 5.0.1 Release Update Guide
Samsung has been working on bringing the Lollipop update continuously to a number of its devices. Currently, the company has yet to finish the Lollipop update for its Samsung Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 series. According to the latest information, the update has reached owners in the United Kingdom. As for other users, they should expect the rollout sometime soon. As with other Android updates, some users may have advanced or delayed access depending on their region and network provider.
Android Lollipop's rollout to devices has been a complicated and tricky schedule to follow. Despite the general information from manufacturers, regions and network providers follow different schedules depending on how they tweak the source code and on their offerings. In the previous week, Samsung Norway has released several Lollipop OTAs although according to GSM Arena, these releases did come with a number of bugs. However, people in other regions should not be alarmed as the case is an isolated problem with regions like the UK proceeding with the upgrade.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 running on Snapdragon has received the software in most parts of Europe. However, the Samsung Galaxy S4 running on both the Exynos and the Snapdragon has yet to catch up. People using SIM-free models should be pleased to find out that the OTA is already available. Likewise, Samsung has also prepared the OTA for the Android 5.0.1 on Galaxy S4 and the Android 5.0 on the Galaxy S5 model(SM-G900H).
Specifically, Galaxy S4 Black Edition in the UK can now access the Android 5.0.1 build. Other regions should expect the rollout to their units soon. Features of the update include TouchWiz appearance improvements and enhanced versions of Samsung's apps. There are also lock screen notifications, Smart Lock and better multitasking view. The switch to ART should make the performance faster.
