Samsung wanted a world full of widgets. These were presented at the CES 2014 and the latest leaks of the alleged Samsung Galaxy S5 home screen suggested these. Leaker @evleaks posted images on Twitter of a new home screen design that adopts from both the constantly updating cards of relevant data and tiled look of the Windows 8 that Google Now users already found familiar.

@evleaks has a good track record of accurate leaks but the images should still be taken with a grain of salt. The columns of the image-heavy cards bear resemblance to the Magazine UX that Samsung introduced on the new Galaxy Tab Pro and Galaxy Note Pro enterprise level tablets at the CES 2014. The new tablets have a similar design with four-way multitasking and multiple widgets in the home screen.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is set for release in the next couple of months and rumored to have a metal body with next gen specs and several new features. The device will be stylistically distinct from its S3 and S4 predecessors. The next gen flagship Android handset could have an iris scanner when it arrives in March or April.

Iris scanners could identify a person based on eye patterns and this feature would be a competitive response to Apple's fingerprint scanner on the iPhone 5S and HTC's One Max. The iris scanner would have to be effective to steer clear from criticisms, saying it's a gimmick like the HTC One Max's fingerprint authentication mechanism.

"When we moved from S3 to S4, it is partly true that consumers could not really feel much difference from the two products based on a physical perspective so the market reaction was not as big," Executive Vice President Young-hee Lee told Bloomberg.

"For the S5, we will go back to the basics. It will mostly be about the feel of the cover and the display."

Galaxy S5 will be released a year after the Galaxy S4 either in March or April. Also, a Gear smartwatch successor will arrive as well. It will be less bulky and will have more advanced features such as higher quality screen.
