Samsung Gear Circle: Necklace-Like Phone And Music Device Makes US Debut
The Korean powerhouse has decided to come up with another wearable accessory. The Gear Circle joins the stable of Samsung's wearable devices. The necklace-like gear will perform in the market alongside the Gear smartwatch range which has its most recent release, the 3-G enabled Gear S.
This latest wearable from Samsung is a wireless stereo headphones which can be paired with any Bluetooth-enabled device. The Gear Circle uses Bluetooth 3.0 which enables the device to easily connect to two different devices at the same time. It also features 180mAh battery that charges via microUSB.
At first glance one can truly mistake the Gear Circle as an electronic necklace. It resembles a necklace of some sort because the two magnetic ends can be attached together when not in use. But with the detachable earbuds it serves as your typical headphones which allow you to receive calls, listen to music and make voice commands as well. Since it is made to function for phone conversations, the device has a built-in microphone to easily receive and place calls, CNET reports.
The headset vibrates when there is an incoming call or text. According to Samsung, the Gear Circle can handle nine hours of music playback and eleven good long hours of talk time on one solid charging. The necklace-like device also supports the company's S Voice text to speech service.
The Gear Circle is available in black and blue variants. There will be a white version that is soon to be released exclusively at Best Buy. This wearable is currently available in select T-Mobile stores. Availability for AT&T, Samsung.com and Amazon.com will be later this month, 9to5 Google reports.
After the official entrance of the necklace-like gear in the American market, consumers' reaction is yet to be heard. With the fierce competition in the wearable device arena, Samsung will have to take the delicate path of properly positioning this new device which apparently has a new look but an old concept.
Despite the big reveal Samsung hasn't release any news on the cost of its latest wearable device. The company refused to elaborate on more details.
