Samsung continues to prove that phablet is now a device market mainstay, disclosing earlier this week that the Galaxy Note 2 has garnered more than one million sales in South Korea alone.

With the new milestone, the Note 2 is well on its way to clock 10 million unit sales between January and March 2013, Samsung said in an interview with MK News.

Officially, Samsung has acknowledged that more than five million units of the Note 2 have been scooped up worldwide and one company executive, obviously buoyed by the surprise and warm reception generated by the extra-sized smartphone, told BGR News that it would not be surprising if global sales would reach 20 million units.

Should the projected sales figures comes into fruition, the Note 2 will outpace the already impressive feat of the first Galaxy Note, which was dismissed earlier by many tech experts as an awkward device trying to gain inroads on two market segments.

The phablet was not only accepted with open arms, it gave birth to another version that further stretched the original edition's 5-inch screen size to 5.5-inch.

Samsung's Galaxy Note also prompted competitors to issue their own take on the segment 'invented' by the South Korean tech giant such as LG's Optimus Vu and HTC's Droid DNA or J-Butterfly as the smartphone is known in Asia.

Unfazed by phablets now flooding the market, Samsung reportedly ramped up its efforts to attract more consumers into the Note 2 fold by adding to new colours to the hulking but sexy handset.

The Note 2 will start off 2013 with red and brown models, Unwired View reported earlier this week, citing a Samsung advertisement that carries the new colour flavours.

And to spice up its Note offerings, Samsung is also releasing a red version of the Galaxy Note 10.1 early this year, Unwired View added on its report.

Speculations also abound that the Note lines will be joined by more siblings. It has been reported that works are underway for the 6.3-inch Galaxy Note 3, which blog reports said will team up with a 7.7-inch Note edition that will come out in 2013.

The same Unwired View report also suggested the possible debut this year of a 13.3-inch Galaxy Note though it remains unclear if this supersized tablet will replace the 10.1 Note or will act as big brother for the whole Samsung Note stable.

Together with the Galaxy S3, the Note has been largely recognised as Samsung's main arsenal in battling Apple for supremacy in the lucrative global device market. As of September 2012, Strategic Analytics has proclaimed the S3 as the world's top smartphone, ending the long reign of Apple's iPhone.
