Samsung Prepares Brand New Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 Mini with Dual-LTE Mode for FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE Networks
Samsung announced dual-mode LTE versions of Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 mini which can support two different versions of the 4G network. Owners can access mobile broadband across different parts of the world without worrying about network compatibility.
Samsung Galaxy S4 and S4 mini Dual-LTE Mode
According to the NextWeb, Galaxy S4 dual-LTE mode variant won't be as eye-catching to consumers compared to camera smartphone Galaxy S4 Zoom or the durable, rugged Galaxy S4 Active. Samsung said that the two phones would be the world's first commercial devices to support both the TDD-LTE and FDD-LTE standards.
"With todays TDD/FDD, LTEseamless handover devices announcement, Samsung again demonstrates the company's commitment to driving better, more convenient customer experiences. The first commercially available TDD/FDD seamless handover devices will allow customers to fully enjoy the benefits of fast mobile data communications no matter where they are," JK Shin, co-CEO and president of IT and Mobile division at Samsung Electronics said regarding Samsung's commitment to LTE, as quoted by NextWeb.
TDD and FDD LTE Modes
There two different types of LTE modes, FDD and TDD, which varied depending on a territory. A smartphone capable of using LTE cannot access both networks at the same time; usually, a phone carried the standard LTE called FDD-LTE and cannot connect to 4G networks supported by TDD-LTE.
TDD-LTE was mostly carried by Chinese wireless networks and if your smartphone uses FDD, you cannot access TDD network in an area. Last year, ZTE launched Grand ERA LTE and created harmony by bringing divided LTE worlds into one. In Hong Kong back in 2012, dual-mode networks for LTE became available, but the ZTE phone using the technology at that time wasn't seamless yet due to reboot requirements to switch between networks.
Samsung is doing everything to cover LTE needs for all consumers using the service which is currently booming in several countries. As of now, there is no exact date when both Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S4 mini dual-LTE mode variants will be available in the market.
