It is likely that the Galaxy Note 3 will be unveiled sometime in 2013, reports said, and as expected Samsung is pushing the limit on screen size. From the 5.5-inch that came with the Note 2, the upcoming phablet will be deployed with a display panel that stretches to 6.3 inches.

Citing a source knowledgeable with Samsung's supply chain, The Korea Times reported this week that development works on the Note 3 are currently underway, which coincides with the South Korean firm's restructuring efforts for its LCD business.

The Asian tech giant is reportedly weaning away from the soon-to-fade display technology in favour of manufacturing more OLED screens in the future.

"The LCD industry is approaching full saturation ... and LCD is no longer a cash generator," The Korea Times quoted its source as saying.

"With money saved from LCD restructuring, the firm plans to spend more on OLED and flexible displays," the publication further reported another source as saying.

This report partly confirmed earlier indications that Samsung's future releases of Galaxy smartphone and tablet lines will not only come with more powerful hardware specs but also with unbreakable and flexible screen.

News reports have suggested earlier that this technology will be seen with the Galaxy S4, which tech watchers said will be pushed from Samsung's product lines by the early part of Q2 2013, with a strong possibility of an April 2013 debut.

According to SlashGear, the S4 will be introduced via the Mobile World Congress 2013 that is slated to be held in late February. But CNET had earlier contended that Samsung is more inclined to launch its marquee smartphone on its own account and by staging an event centred on the handset that this year dislodged Apple's iPhone 5 from the top.

As for the Note 3, experts anticipate its release to come within the second half of 2013 though specific specs for the hit phablet remain scarce at the moment. It is given that the third edition of the device will bring significant upgrades but expert seem to disagree that Samsung would push the envelope too far in terms of the Note 3's screen size.

BGR News contends that the Note 3 will likely sport a 1080p display but to go beyond the six inches mark on screen size would mean more adjustments for Samsung engineers. The phablet will have to be reconfigured in order to make way for a more powerful battery, which is needed to keep this LTE-capable plus with improved screen technology running for hours, BGR said.

For SlashGear, the Galaxy Note road map is likely headed for another version, the 7-inch edition that will tussle with the players currently engaged in 7-inch plus class. It will be on head-on collision with Google's Nexus 7, Apple's iPad Mini and Amazon's Kindle Fire, the tech site added.
