San Diego Comic Con 2016: Melissa Benoist, Grant Gustin react to question if 'The Flash' and 'Supergirl' would have a musical episode next season
“Supergirl” and “The Flash” both air on The CW
There are rumours that The Flash and Supergirl may collaborate soon for a musical episode in the upcoming season. Unfortunately for the fans of camp, all this talk is just a product of TV host Conan O’Brien’s humour.
O’Brien was at San Diego Comic-Con where he talked to Melissa Benoist of “Supergirl” and Grant Gustin of “The Flash.” He said that the two stars have been on “Glee” before and obviously have prowess in music. Conan asked whether they were ever pressured to do an episode where superheroes actually sing.
ComicBook cited Benoist in confirming that a musical episode has never been brought up since she took on the role of Supergirl. Conan continued to ask if it would even be possible for them to consider doing one. The comedy host suggested the classical musical “Oklahoma.” Grant Gustin suggested “Brigadoon.”
They all exchanged laughs until it seemed evident that no one would even dare to make the DC superheroes sing at one point in their new seasons. Conan concluded that he could immediately ruin their respective franchises.
Earlier in June 2016, MTV News noted that “Arrow” star Stephen Amell immediately shot down the idea of a musical episode or said that he at least, would be out if there would ever be one. He said that it would be extremely difficult to make a four-show crossover, and he draws the line at musical. He emphasised how he wanted his show to return to its roots, and venturing into musical would further deviate them from where he envisions the story to go.
Many in the cast of the DC superhero shows have shown vocal skills in one way or another, including Jesse L. Martin, Jeremy Jordan, John Barrowman, Colin Donnell and Carlos Valdes, among others. Although fans would love to hear Benoist or Gustin sing in an episode or so, they may be better off watching old “Glee” episodes.
In the meantime, the new seasons of “The Flash” and “Supergirl” are set to launch soon. “The Flash” Season 3 will reportedly delve into the Flashpoint storyline from the comics. “Supergirl” will most likely venture more into Project Cadmus as well as feature Superman at some point.
More updates and details on “Supergirl” and “The Flash” are expected soon. “Supergirl” and “The Flash” both air on The CW. They also air on Syfy and Fox8, respectively, in Australia.
