San Francisco fire officials reported Thursday afternoon a raging fire destroyed two apartment buildings in the Western Addition neighborhood. The huge fire stretched to a neighboring school.

Sixty people got their properties burned while 150 firefighters spent almost three hours quelling the fire.

While firefighters were trying to put out the fire, a four-story apartment building at Golden Gate Avenue and Pierce Street was completely surrounded with flames. After a while of battling the flames, Capt. Jeanne Seyler, San Francisco Fire Department, ordered an evacuation as the roof where they were standing on started to collapse.

"At least two people have been injured," said Seyler. A resident was taken to the hospital because of smoke inhalation, while one firefighter got burns on his neck, but was already treated. None of the injuries were severe.

"It was a challenging fire to fight, but given the time of day, it was actually helpful because most people were out of their dwellings," said the chief.

Authorities decided to block particular streets, which caused a huge traffic jam in the place. Firefighters, however, believed that they were successful in evacuating people from the buildings.

The cause of the fire was not yet known, pending an investigation.

The chief explained that the fire quickly extended to the neighboring establishments because of the vigorous wind. Also, the building where the fire began was constructed out of wood and was directly connected to the adjacent buildings.

Presently, Red Cross is taking care of the residents, who got displace by the intense fire.
