San Francisco Giants Show Interest on Brian McCann; Cleveland Indians Won’t Offer Lengthy Extension To Ubaldo Jimenez
The San Francisco Giants are reportedly looking into the possibility on signing Atlanta Braves slugger Brian McCann this coming winter, a reliable league source disclosed Friday.
The Giants, who failed to make it in the postseason after the World Series in 2012, will try to add firepower to their batting unit and McCann is certainly on their free-agency wish list.
McCann boasts a career .823 OPS, making him a hot free agent target this coming off season. The New York Knicks, Los Angeles Angels, Chicago Cubs, and the Texas Rangers are reportedly all interested to get McCann.
In other free agency news, the Cleveland Indians have no plans to offer a long term contract for starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez.
Jimenez and his agent are expected to reject the $8 million team option with the Indians. There are reports that the Tribe has no interest at all in committing lengthy deal with Jimenez, who has been inconsistent on the mound in the past couple of years.
"There is no chance that the Indians offer Jimenez a multi-year deal. All thoughts of that were washed away when the Giants signed Tim Lincecum earlier this week to a two-year, $35 million deal. Jimenez and Lincecum, each 29, would have entered this winter's free agent class together if the Giants didn't sign their veteran right-hander," writes Paul Hoynes of Cleveland Plain Dealer.
