Sandra Bullock's newest film "Gravity" is reportedly making more than its competition "Carrie" in the U.S. and Canadian box offices.

The 3-D outer space movie starring veteran actors Sandra Bullock and George Clooney revolves on the story of two astronauts who are stranded in space. Overall ticket sales over the weekend is reportedly more than USD 30 million.

"Gravity" is the no.1 and it is followed by Tom Hank's "Captain Phillips" and then by "Carrie" at USD 17 million.

According to one fan, the Sandra Bullock movie is "unbeatable" in the 3-D category. Other fans say that "Gravity" will get Oscar nods this year.

The nail-gnawing space flight is the beginning of the 3-D film and is definitely a marvel of great visual choreography.

At one moment in the film, viewers are inside the helmet of one of the astronauts complete with extraterrestrial debris hurling at viewers. This is what makes "Gravity" different than other astronaut-inspired films and IMAX's large screen just makes it better, fans say.

When Ryan, played by Sandra Bullock, reaches a space station, she gets rid of her gear until she is in her underwear. She goes in a fetal position -mankind's oldest form of protecting oneself.

According to Time Magazine, the role of Ryan was offered to veteran actress Angelina Jolie twice but she declined the role. It was then offered to actresses Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Rachel Weisz, Jennifer Lopez, Marion Cotillard, Olivia Wilde among others.

George Clooney's character in "Gravity" was filled by Robert Downey, Jr. before but sources say Downey dropped out in the year 2011.
