The synopsis of the episode suggests that old feelings will come to the fore, which might be alluding to Mellie's potential love interest, Andrew Nichols. The Episode 11 of "Scandal" Season 3, "Ride, Sally, Ride," introduced Andrew Nichols not only as Fitz's running mate, but also as Mellie's secret admirer. It seems in "We Do Not Touch the First Ladies," this admiration will no longer be a secret.

Bellamy Young, who plays Mellie, said to TVLine that in the new episode, viewers will get a "lot more information not just about me [Mellie] and Andrew but also about Andrew in general." She revealed that there could be some flashbacks. The actress also said that there is a "lot to learn and it will be fun." As reportedly previously, viewers can expect to see some steamy scenes between Mellie and Andrew.

At this year's Oscar, Kerry Washington dropped a cryptic spoiler, saying, as quoted by Parade, "it's worth the wait...It's pretty insane, what goes on. There's some shocking stuff that's about to unfold. Gladiators, unite."

The preview clip also hints at Rowan playing his game and is out for blood. In the previous episode, Leo Bergen, Sally's campaign manager, met him. It looks like in "We Do Not Touch the First Ladies," Leo will be introducing Sally to Rowan. It is election time and it looks like Fitz will be under attack from all fronts. It is not going to be an easy re-election for him.

Official Synopsis of "Scandal" Season 3 Episode 12, "We Do Not Touch the First Ladies": "Fitz faces a harsh reality when old feelings and jealousy arise at an event, Quinn wants to prove herself, and Leo arranges a meeting between Sally and an old friend."
