"Scandal" Season 4 opened with Olivia and Jake's passionate moment on an island, 100 miles off the coast of Zanzibar. Jake was finally standing with Olivia in the Sun, as he had desired. However, the news about Harrison's death reached Olivia and she returned with Jake to arrange Harrison's funeral. She later decided to stay in Washington DC and returned to her role as the fixer. And since their return, Jake and Olivia have not been standing much in the sun. The mid-season finale episode of " Scandal" Season 4, which is set to air on Thursday night, is titled "Where the Sun Don't Shine." The title seems to be indicating a dark place where the two will be seen standing. In episode 9 of "Scandal," Season 4, everyone's life is in danger, especially the ones who are close to Olivia.

As previously reported, Mama Pope is returning in the mid-season finale of "Scandal" Season 4. In the last season finale of "Scandal" Season 3, Rowan framed Mama Pope for the murder of the president's son Jerry. The President gave Rowan the permission to kill Mama Pope. Rowan did not kill her but incarcerated her in an underground dungeon.

The last episode, "The Last Supper," saw Olivia unable to get her father arrested for the crimes he has committed, including ordering Tom to kill Jerry and Harrison. Rowan walked away from their dinner after telling her that their relationship is over. He also said to her that the snipers that she was waiting for outside, who had come to arrest him, are dead. Rowan blamed Olivia for their deaths.

The synopsis of "Scandal" Season 4 episode 9 says that the Command of B-613 is "two steps ahead and everyone in Olivia's life is in danger." The synopsis of the episode also indicates that Cyrus will be forced to face consequences of his actions.

Meanwhile, Huck and Quinn will figure out Lizzie Bear's plan. In the last episode, they found out that Dan Kubiak and Lizzie Bear are plotting something and the vice president Andrew Nichols is sleeping with the chairwoman of RNC. The synopsis of the episode indicates that Huck and Quinn may not be able to stop Lizzie Bear from executing her plan.
