In the upcoming new season of "Scandal," it is almost a new beginning, as Fitz got re-elected in the last season but Olivia was not beside him. She was taking-off to an undisclosed location, with Jake beside her. She gave Abby the responsibility to run Olivia Pope & Associates (OPA) in her absence. Shonda Rhimes, creator of "Scandal," took to Twitter to post the cover page of premiere episode script, which she has written.

The title on the script's cover page is "Randy, Red, Superfreak and Julia." Tom Verica is the director of the episode. The premiere episode of "Scandal" Season will not pick up from where it left off in the last season. There will be a small time jump.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Rhimes said, "... Season four is going to be very different from season three, the same way season two was different from season one ..." She also said that a reset has happened because of what happened in Season 3 finale, and "everybody's life has got wiped clean in a very odd way."

The Season 3 finale of "Scandal" saw Rowan succeeding in his plot to kill Fitz's son. He made it look like Maya is responsible for what happened. He got back his B-613's crown and put Maya back in the underground dungeon. Olivia took-up his father's offer to get on a plane and disappear, as she felt responsible for whatever tragic was happening around her. Fitz won the re-election and is the President, again, but he was in mourning because he lost his son. Without Olivia there to head it, OPA is no longer the same firm.

"We're in a very different space than we were when we were even three episodes toward the end. We're in a very different spot and everybody has been wiped clean, and anything goes, in a weird way," Rhimes said to THR.

Meanwhile, Portia de Rossi has been roped in for a multiple-episode arc in the new season. There is no detail yet about what role Rossi is going to play in Season 4. One actor who is not returning in Season 4 is Columbus Short. It can be assumed that Rowan's man shot his character, Harrison Wright, dead.

Speaking about Harrison's end, Rhimes said to THR, "his absence will be explained definitively. What you think happened to his character happened to his character."

TV Line recently reported that the "Scandal" team is planning to add a new "African-American" character to the show. The report describes the character as a lawyer who is in his 30s to 50s. If Rhimes does not find the right actor to play this character, she may drop the plan to introduce him, according to TV Line.

"Scandal" Season 4 is scheduled to premiere on September 25, 2014. Regina King is set to direct one episode of "Scandal" in February 2015. Tony Goldwyn, who plays Fitz, is also expected to direct an episode of Season 4.
