The Conjuring

Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga and Lili Taylor - acclaimed actors they might be but these are not the actors that tend to make fans flock in hordes at the BO. Yet "The Conjuring" opened to a fantastic weekend and has been lauded as a movie that can make people "scream their bloody heads off" by critics! While the movie labels itself as "based on a true story about the Warrens," USA Today snubbed it, since the Warrens are acclaimed storytellers.

The Colony

Claustrophobic flick, "The Colony" directed by Jeff Renfroe (Civic Duty, Sand Serpents) and starring Laurence Fishburne, Kevin Zegers and Bill Paxton is based in the future where the Earth froze and humans survive underground. A struggling outpost, a band of human survivors and a savage threat more vicious than the cold! Sounds a bit done and seen, but hey, sounds like plenty for all gore-lovers.

The Devil's Rapture

Starring Ann Heche, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Jennifer Carpenter, Rufus Sewell and Thomas McDonell, "The Devil's Rapture" is an occult-based horror flick. Directed by Christian E. Christiansen of "The Roommate" which portrayed Leighton Meester in a deranged role - this one is about the birth of the devil's daughter and the evil prophecy surrounded it. Young members of a cult are being killed and the youngsters suspect it's the abusive elders...

Hell Baby

And so the devil and his mama are back, with a few laughs. Doubly directed by Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon - who also act in the movie - and co-starring Leslie Gibbs, Robert Corddry and Michael Ian Black; "Hell Baby" is slated for release in September. A couple moves into a house that has a demonic curse on it and only the Vatican's elite exorcist team can save them - two guesses for the elite team members, Robert and Thomas.

Insidious: Chapter 2

James Wan and Patrick Wilson are back for the sequel to "Insidious" along with the other original star cast of Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye, Barbara Hershey and Ty Simpkins. The haunted Lambert family is now seeking to uncover the childhood mystery that has left them connected with the spirit world, with dangerous consequences. "Insidious" has a more-than watchable IMDB rating of 6.7 and won 5 awards and 4 nominations. The sequel might just prove to be better than the first!
