Scott Derrickson teases another possible filming location for 'Doctor Strange'
Filming for “Doctor Strange” officially starts in November. Ahead of the production, movie director Scott Derrickson took to his Twitter page to tease what could be another film location for the comic book adaptation.
Derrickson and his production crew have been busy scouting for other possible filming locations for “Doctor Strange.” On his recent Twitter post on Saturday, the movie director shared his photo where he’s seen posing along the docks. Boats and some shipping vessels could be seen from a distance from where he is standing, in the photo. Derrickson simply captioned the image, “Location scouting in London.”
Although the director didn’t mention the name of the location, Twitter user Morgan Williams hinted Derrickson was standing along the River Thames. On his July 28 tweet, the director also shared a photo of London’s River Thames along with the caption, “My morning view of the River Thames.”
The River Thames is a prominent location in the Marvel comic world. It’s also one of the key locations in “Doctor Strange” apart from the Sanctum Sanctorum and the Dimension of Dreams. Aside from “Doctor Strange,” London’s famous pier has been featured in numerous Marvel comics including “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” and “Captain America: The Living Legend Is Mad.”
In “Doctor Strange” the River Thames was reportedly featured in the 1981 comic book entitled, “Doctor Strange: Mystery of the Mystic Arts” especially in its “The Cat & the Cataclysm” story. In this 50 th issue from the comics’ Volume 2 publication, the Sorcerer Supreme encounters the villains Nightmare, Baron Mordo and Dormammu to name a few.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed during an interview with Collider that filming for “Doctor Strange” will basically be done in London and will begin in November. As to the other various locations, the production team has yet to decide.
Feige also told Devin Faraci from Birth.Movies.Death that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Doctor Stephen Strange’s famous Sanctum Sanctorum will be located on Bleeker Street instead of New York City’s Greenwich Village. It will be on the modern day Bleeker Street where Feige said Stephen Strange will be the “strangest thing walking out onto that street.”
