The James Bond pistol used by Sean Connery in a poster for the 1963 film From Russia With Love fetched £277,250 in an auction. The pistol has been sold for 10 times more than the original estimate at Christie's in London.
Sean Connery portrayed the British spy from 1962 to 1983. From Russia With Love is his second James Bond film, following his debut in Dr. No in 1962. His other James Bond film, all of which were commercially successful were: Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), You Only Live Twice (1967), Diamonds Are Forever (1971) and Never Say Never Again (1983).
In From Russia With Love, Sean Connery's James Bond was on a mission to assist in the defection of Soviet consulate clerk Tatiana Romanov, played by actress Daniela Bianchi. The defection was to take place in Turkey, where SPECTRE plans to avenge Bond's killing of Dr. No in the previous film.
The movie was critically acclaimed and a commercial success with Electronic Arts releasing a video game adaptation in 2005.
