Sean Penn denied that he was "sniffing cocaine" while in relief work in Haiti. A representative for Penn issued the statement to deny the allegation made by Haiti President-wannabe Wyclef Jean that the actor was using drugs while implementing relief measures in the earthquake-stricken country.

"Mr. Jean is clearly unfamiliar with the physical demands put upon volunteers in Haiti," Sean Penn's representative is quoted as telling the entertainment website JustJared.com. "As aid workers there, the notion of depleting the body's immune system thru the use of illicit drugs is ludicrous. "

The representative strongly asserted that Sean Penn adheres to his organization's policy against all illegal drugs. Penn leads J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/PHRO).

"More specifically, J/P Haitian Relief Organization has a ZERO tolerance policy for any and all illegal drugs. As the leader of this organization, Sean Penn has not only set this policy, but adheres to it. That Mr. Jean would make such a false accusation is reckless and saddening, but not surprising," said Penn's representative

According to their website, J/P HRO mission statement is "to save lives and bring relief to the Haitian people quickly and effectively." It was founded by actor-humanitarian Sean Penn and philanthropist Diana Jenkins.

The altercation between Penn and Wyclef Jean began after Penn commented that Jean's bid for the Haitian presidency is "suspicious." In a recent New York city performance, Wyclef Jean incorporated biting lyrics against Sean Penn in a remake of his 2004 song President. Jean says, "I got a message for Sean Penn/ Maybe he ain't see me in Haiti because he was too busy sniffing cocaine."
