The premiere episode of "American Horror Story-Freak Story" introduced some of the main characters of this season, including Elsa Mars, Bette and Dot Tattler, Jimmy Darling, Dandy Mott, Gloria Mott, Ethel Darling and Twisty the Clown. The focus of episode 1, "Monsters Among Us," was on Elsa, Bette and Dot, Jimmy and Twisty. The second episode, which is titled "Massacres and Matinees," will see the introduction of Desiree Dupree, the three breasted woman, and Dell Toledo, the strongman of "Freak Show."

The strongman is the ex-husband of Ethel and father of Jimmy. Desiree Dupree is his current wife. Ryan Murphy, co-creator of "American Horror Story," has said to Entertainment Weekly (EW) that in the second episode "you spend a lot of time" with the characters of Dell Toledo, Desiree Dupree and Ethel. Emma Roberts and Denis O'Hare's characters Maggie and Stanley are going to be introduced in episode 3.

TV Guide is reporting that in episode 2 Dandy will run away from home to join the freak show. The freaks, however, will not welcome him. His mother Gloria will hire Twisty the Clown to set-up a freak show for him. According to TV Guide, this hiring of the murderous clown does not result in the killing of the mother and son. In the premiere episode, Dandy and Gloria were the only two people who were in the audience watching Elsa's freak show. Later, Dandy wanted to buy the conjoined twins but the twins refused to go with him.

Speaking about Episode 2, Murphy said to EW, "... Dandy, whose catchphrase is, "I'm bored. I'm so bored," finally finds something that does not bore him, which is Twisty. So we explore that [in Episode 2] and that plays out over several episodes." He said that Dandy will become Twisty's apprentice.

In the first episode, Elsa told her henchwoman Ethel that she did not bring the conjoined twins to the camp to change the freak show's fortune but she did it for herself. She said, "... people would come and they would see me, and I would finally become a star. It's what I've always wanted, nothing else." In episode 2, Elsa is set to find out that her dream to become a star may remain just that, a dream, as one of the conjoined twins will reveal her singing talent and she will be a better singer than Elsa.
