They are not called Virgin employees for nothing. Female attendants of Virgin Train are protesting the new uniform of the transport form because the blouses are too short and so flimsy.

The train attendants said because of the sheer material used on the red blouse, rail riders will see if they are wearing dark bras. The uniforms were designed by Vivienne Westwood, but workers criticised the outfit like it was ordered from Del Boy at Trotters Independent Traders.

To address the protest made by the female workers, Virgin's business support department offered them £20 vouchers so they could buy new bras. It also delayed the use of the new red-and-black uniform by three weeks from the original Wednesday, May 8 schedule.

Andy Cross, business support director of Virgin Train, said the company is aware it needs to review the situation once workers start to wear their new uniforms and accepts the negative feedback as part of the uniform trial stage.

However, some workers do not want the voucher since it is not sufficient to purchase a decent bra. TSSA, the rail union, has also turned down the voucher because it is too little and too late. The union sought more talks with management after the last meeting was deadlocked on the matter.

"Our female staff are upset because they feel Sir Richard is cutting corners by asking them to wear flimsy blouses which are skimpy," TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes said.

"Our female members want to be judged with dignity on their professionalism in the workplace," he added.
