Food ingredient researcher Jimmy Seervai has been eliminated from the MasterChef after being failed by his seafood platter.

The 31-year-old from New South Wales got in trouble when he tried to recreate the signature dish of judge UK chef Rick Stein, along with the other judges, Matt Preston and George Calombaris.

Seervai was beaten by his rivals accountant Matthew Caldcott and cement renderer Jake Bujayer in Monday night's elimination round.

"When I was putting up my platter, I knew I was going home, just by looking at the other two guy's dishes," Seervai said.

"But I was still smiling, I thought: holy crap, I'm serving up a dish in front of Rick Stein."

He said he still wants to pursue a career in the food industry.

"The thought of owning a restaurant has always been a bit of a fairytale for me.

"But first up, I'd like to produce a line of food sauces," he said.
