Selena Gomez Covers Lorde’s Hit ‘Royals’ [VIDEOS]
Lorde is really an international star now. The Kiwi teen singer’s hit “Royals” has been covered by American star Selena Gomez while the latter was in Amsterdam on Tuesday.
Selena was in Heineken Music Hall in the Dutch capital as part of her Stars Dance World tour when she belted out the chart-topping tune.
Watch her perform Lorde’s song:
Selena, 21, is clearly a fan of the younger singer. In August, she has quoted a line from the song of the 16-year-old Auckland student on her Instagram.
“’I’m sitting pretty on the throne, there’s nothing more I want, expect to be alone. –Lorde,” Selena captioned her photo, referring to a line from Lorde’s “The Love Club.”
Selena isn’t the only international act who has covered Lorde’s hit. Canadian rock band Walk off the Earth, best known for their YouTube cover of “Somebody That I Used To Know,” has also delivered a rousing rendition of “Royals” in August.
Watch it here:
Lorde, whose real name is Ella Yelice-O’Connor, recently made history by being the first female solo artist to nab the top of Billboard’s alternative songs charts in 17 years with “Royals.”
The last time a female soloist has taken the crown was in 1996, Lorde’s birth year, when Tracy Bonham’s “Mother Mother” beat all other songs for the top spot.
Lorde will release her debut album “Pure Heroine” on September 30.
But before that, she will perform at the Vector Arena in Auckland for a free concert by iHeartRadio on September 7. The digital radio has given fans chance to win two tickets each by signing up for an account on its Web site before September 1.
