Selena Gomez cried her heart out as she gave a very emotional solo performance on her song "The Heart Wants What It Wants" at the 42nd American Music Awards at Los Angeles Nokia Theatre on Sunday, Nov. 23. There is speculation in the media that Selena's song was about her on and off boyfriend Justin Bieber and their tumultuous relationship. Check out the video below.

The 22-year-old gave a stunning performance on her song standing alone, without any background dancers or props. But there was a huge screen behind her that showed wonderful images to go along with her song. When the lyrics in Selena's song referred to her heart getting torn away into million pieces, the state of art screen behind her showed the same.

When Selena sang the lyrics, "This is a modern fairytale, no happy endings, no wind in our sails," the screen behind her showed the wings of an angel which looked like Selena's wings. The gorgeous singer wore a floor length gown in nude colour which had a long slit. The Texan beauty left her hair open in waves and let it fall over her shoulders. Selena's song had all the elements in the backdrop to make it melancholic; right from thunder, lightning, a girl's teary eyes and even a silhouette of a man with his hands touching the screen.

When Selena finished her song, she mouthed the words "thank you Jesus" to herself, away from the microphone. Right after that gesture, the 22-year-old became very emotional and her eyes welled up with tears as her friend Taylor Swift sat watching in the audience. Many websites are speculating that Selena's emotional performance was meant for Justin Bieber, whom she has shut out completely from her life after the couple broke up yet again after their Paris trip.

Selena earlier revealed in an interview with Ryan Seacrest that Justin Bieber liked her song "The Heart Wants What It Wants" when he heard it and thought it was "beautiful," reveals U.S. Magazine. However, the singer believes that Justin was jealous of the man in the video. Selena is of the opinion that her song is an expression for many girls in love. "Honestly, music is an expression, and if you will be that voice for these girls, there are some people that feel this. This is universal," said Selena, according to U.S. Magazine.
