Serena Williams bonds with Kim Kardashian during historic U.S. Open Title bid [PHOTOS]
Serena Williams is poised to make history at this year’s U.S. Open, but that didn’t stop her from enjoying some downtime with her close friend, Kim Kardashian. The pair enjoyed some afternoon tea earlier this week, before Kim watched Serena defeat her sister Venus on Tuesday.
“Sipping & spilling the tea tonight with Serena,” said Kim as she posted a photo of the two of them having a girls’ bonding moment. In the photo, both of them held up their cups and sipped tea as they posed for the photo. Serena even stuck out her pinky finger in a dainty pose, which offered no clue about the monster that she could be on the tennis courts.
The following day, Serena pulled her hair back and left all the daintiness behind as she defeated her older sister, Venus, during their quarterfinal match. Venus put up a good fight and was able to claim a set. However, it was the younger Williams sister who made it through with a score of (6-2, 1-6, 6-3).
Kim watched from the stands as her friend played at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York. Kim’s sister Kendall Jenner, was also at the event, along with her model BFF Gigi Hadid.
Serena retweeted Kim’s photo and joked around as if she wasn’t in the middle of one of the most important tournaments of her life. Serena will be the first woman to win a calendar Grand Slam in 27 years if she wins this tournament. The last female player to have won all four Majors in a calendar year was Germany’s Steffi Graf back in 1988.
Only three players stand in Serena’s way to glory and a solid spot on the record books. She will face Roberta Vinci in the semi-finals on Friday morning, If she wins, she will face either Flavia Pennetta or Simona Halep in the final match on Saturday.
