Serena Williams recently went topless for the Pirelli Calendar 2016. The top-ranked female tennis player joined a host of diverse lineup of women from different walks of life in the annual Pirelli calendar photographed by Annie Leibowitz.

Instead of the usual provocative photos of glamorous supermodels, this year’s edition of the Pirelli Calendar 2016 featured 12 women in black and white portraits. The women were chosen for their notable achievements in their respective fields. Williams took off her bra and posed topless in a pair of black underwear, showcasing her powerful frame. She is the featured model for the month of April.

Williams isn’t new to baring her curvaceous body. She has previously posed nude for ESPN The Magazine Body Issue.

Meanwhile, the Pirelli Calendar 2016 also includes comedienne Amy Schumer (December), who also posed topless in only white lingerie underwear while holding a coffee cup. It also features philanthropist Natalia Vodianova (January), film producer Kathleen Kennedy (February), art collector Agnes Gund with Sadie Rain Hope-Gund (March), writer Fran Lebowitz (May), Dreamworks Animation Chairman of the Board of Directors Mellody Hobson (June), film director Ava DuVernay (July), blogger and actress Tavi Gevinson (August), Iranian visual artist Shirin Neshat (September), artist and musician Yoko Ono (October), singer Patty Smith (November) and first Chinese UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Yao Chen.

In a behind-the-scene video shared on Twitter, Leibowitz revealed that Pirelli gave her “freedom” to create a totally different concept for the 2016 calendar. “The whole idea was not to have any pretense in these pictures and be very straightforward and show these women like exactly who they are.”

Last year’s lineup featured Adriana Lima, Natalia Vodianova, Joan Smalls, Candice Huffine, Carolyn Murphy, Anna Ewers, Cameron Russell, Sasha Luss, Karen Elson and Isabeli Fontana. Other models who previously appeared in the Pirelli Calendar were Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss and Gisele Bundchen. Visit Pirellicalendar.pirelli.com for more information on the 2016 calendar.
