A Colombian man agrees to penis amputation after overdosing on Viagra pills. The 66-year-old man, who requested to have his name withheld, went to the hospital to have his penis checked after experiencing continuous erection for several days.
The man admitted he took more than the usual dose of erectile dysfunction drug Viagra in an attempt to impress and pleasure his girlfriend. Concerned medics at the small hospital in Gigante recommended going to another hospital with sufficient medical equipment in Neiva.
The man who overdosed on Viagra was diagnosed by doctors in Neiva of suffering from penile fracture and swelling. A Colombian newspaper, Diario del Huila, reported that the man's penis already gangrene.
To prevent the spread of gangrene in the man's penis, he was advised by doctors to undergo penis amputation. Doctors need to cut off the man's penis to keep inflammation and gangrene from infecting other parts of his body.
Dr. Antonio Correa told another Colombian newspaper, La Nacion, the patient had bruises in his penis and testicles. Doctors said the man was recovering from the operation despite bruises on his penis and testicles.
Viagra, a penis erection enhancer and also known as Sildenafil, works on males by keeping the walls of the penis' blood vessels relaxed. This will help keep the male's erection up for a longer period.
Males suffering from a Viagra overdose may also feel chest pains and irregular heartbeats. Overdosing on Viagra can also cause prolonged and painful erections with nausea and hives as symptoms. The condition is also known as priapism in which sudden loss of hearing and vision may also be experienced.
Priapism is considered a medical emergency. A person should seek immediate medical assistance if symptoms are felt. According to experts on men's health, if the penis with priapism is not treated within 24 hours, the penis may be damaged permanently.
The manufacturers of the Viagra drug, Pfizer, did not yet comment on the story. No announcements were made regarding the recall of the penile erection enhancer.
