Sex With Underage Prostitute: Former Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi Found Guilty, Faces 7-year Jail Time
Guilty. Former Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi has been made to face the full wrath of Italian law and was slapped with a 7-year jail time for having sex with an underage prostitute.
Apart from the 84-months imprisonment, the Milan Court on Monday likewise slapped a lifetime ban against the three-time premier to ever seek public office again.
Soliciting sex from prostitutes is not a crime in Italy, but when 76-year old Mr Berlusconi paid Moroccan-born erotic dancer Karima El-Mahroug, otherwise known as Ruby the Heart Stealer, for sex in 2010 when she was under 18, Italy's court of justice knew it had to draw the line, no matter who it was pitting against with. Mr Berlusconi in plain clear sight broke the law.
Not only was Mr Berlusconi found guilty of sex with an underage prostitute, he was actually found to have consciously twisted the law and abusing his powers just to get his way on things in order to conceal the act.
Court proceedings heard a recording of Mr Berlusconi calling police on May 27, 2010 and telling them to release Ms El-Mahroug, who was held on suspicion of theft, because she was the granddaughter of then-Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
The billionaire is entitled to two appeals. But observers and analysts believe that there might be no be actual jail time for the former Italian prime minister because of his old age issues.
Mr Berlusconi, who was not present when the verdict was handed down, made no immediate comment. He presently has no official post in the current Italian government, but is considered a key player in the fragile ruling coalition.
Both he and the alleged Moroccan call-girl had denied ever having sex. But Ms El-Mahroug did admit that Mr Berlusconi had indeed organized strip shows for "bodily stimulation" at his villa. She said the girls who participated only stripped down to their lingerie and there was ever "no contact" with the disgraced Mr Berlusconi.
