'Sherlock Holmes' Benedict Cumberbatch Engaged To Sophie Hunter, Announces News In Traditional Way
Benedict Cumberbatch's legion of women fans calling themselves "Cumberb*tches" may now be officially brokenhearted. The 38-year-old Cumberbatch has just been engaged to theatre director and actress Sophie Hunter, 36, and he announced it the traditional way: through a newspaper ad.
Following the footsteps of gorgeous ex-bachelors, George Clooney and Brad Pitt, Benedict Cumberbatch is also now set to marry. In the era of Twitter, Instagram and even emailed statements, Benedict still opted to announce his wedding engagement via the old-fashioned way. The "Sherlock Holmes" and "12 Years A Slave" star announced through the births, deaths and marriages column of the "Times" that he's now officially engaged. Cumberbatch and Hunter met on the set of Susan Luciani's 2009 film "Burlesque Fairytales," where Hunter played the role of Annabel Blythe-Smith and Cumberbatch was casted as Henry Clark.
"The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katherine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London," the "Time" announcement reads. The notice was by Cumberbatch himself and Hunter. Cumberbatch's rep took the time to confirm the news as well, saying, "I am delighted to confirm this morning's announcement that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are engaged."
Aside from being a good actor with good looks, his good friend and co-star in the "Imitation Game" Keira Knightley described him as caring, among other things. She said that Benedict is a good dinner companion, both interesting and interested. He's always updated on political issues and the news, so he would not be boring to eat dinner with. He's going to have an opinion on various topics and always have a story to tell, Keira further said. As a friend, Keira also shared that Benedict is so caring that he can be counted on to be there during the tough times. Keira said she personally experienced Benedict taking her out to dinner, going to her house, and listening to her when she's feeling the blues.
