'Sherlock' Season 3 Finale Review: Watch 'His Last Vow' End with 'Did you miss me?' (Surprising Twists and Turns 'Til the End!)
When will BBC One air Sherlock Season 4? Will Andrew Scott's Moriarty really return?
"Sherlock" Season 3, Episode 3, titled "His Last Vow," packs in a lot of action and surprises for the avid viewers. The season finale neatly wraps up the Holmes and Watson trifecta this year with a massively surprising twist and (literal) turn at the end. Moriarty (Andrew Scott), asks England, "Did you miss me?" Now when will BBC One air Sherlock Season 4?
Spoiler alert: This review recaps the highlights with spoilers on Sherlock Season 3, Episode 3, aka "His Last Vow." Sherlock 3x3 is the season finale episode. Watch the BBC's TV version of Charles Augustus Milverton from "The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Two years fans waited, two weeks and it's over. That's Sherlock Season 3 on BBC One. The run is all too fast for the fans and for Dane Lars Mikkelsen, who wowed critics and fans for his excellent portrayal of Charles Augustus Magnussen. (He will be missed.) Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) resorts to "desperate measures" to resolve the Magnussen situation. Some TV fans are shocked, some others cheered on.
Sherlock Holmes' ultimate action against Magnussen may have also been driven by his desire to help Mary Morstan (Amanda Abbington). This just shows how Sherlock has evolved as a friend to John Watson - loving and protecting those whom he loves.
Sherlock Season 3, Episode 3 writer Steven Moffat and director Nick Hurran created for the fans an unforgettable finale. It is probably even more mind-boggling than the Season 2 finale.
Two years ago, fans knew that Sherlock Holmes certainly didn't die in "The Reichenbach Fall." (The "how" part inspired a thousand theories, though.) What was seemingly very clear in Sherlock 2x03, was that Andrew Scott's Moriarty has died. No tricks, no mind games -- the guy was lifeless on the rooftop. But!
"Make up your mind," Sherlock tells his brother Mycroft (Mark Gatiss). One minute, he's sending the eccentric, "high-functioning psychopath" away. Moments later, he calls because England needs Sherlock.
"Did you miss me?" A mocking image of Moriarty asks in the Sherlock Season 3 finale. What is going on here? Did he, too, fake his death? Do fans recycle old their how-Sherlock-survived-fall theories and use it on Moriarty?
A lot of great things come together in the Sherlock Season 3 finale. Moffat's crisp lines, Hurran's fantastic frames, and the outstanding lead actors - Cumberbatch and Freeman - who have never failed the fans. Among the supporting cast, Amanda Abbington's Mary wins the New Character Who Gets the Most Enthusiastic Nod from Critics award.
In "His Last Vow," Sherlock doesn't mind that Mary shot him. He knows she didn't even try to kill him; it was a necessary distraction. But the execution was so compelling, some would think it's the biggest moment of the finale. But then Moriarty asks in the end, "Did you miss me?" Just brilliant.
When will Sherlock Season 4 air on BBC One? Fans waited two years for this third chapter. It is best to be conservative in new season premiere date anticipation.
Here's a fan clip from Sherlock Season 3, Episode 3, aka "His Last Vow." The cliffhanger revelation is simply priceless.
