‘Sherlock’ season 4: Mark Gatiss says fans have missed ‘blindingly obvious’ clues [VIDEO]
“Sherlock” season 4 has already laid out some “blindingly obvious” clues, but fans have missed them. Co-creator Mark Gatiss, who also plays the titular character’s brother Mycroft, has revealed that they have already left hints on what to expect with Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Watson (Martin Freeman) in season 4; fans just need to pay more attention.
Speaking to the audience at the Victoria & Albert Museum earlier this week, Gatiss said they have left obvious clues in the series but people still see things that aren’t there.
“There are things that come to fruition in this series which we’ve been planning for years,” he was quoted by Radio Times as saying.
“But people also find things that aren’t there, which is my favourite, and then miss the blindingly obvious things that are there. People read an awful lot into it.”
Gatiss also shared a fan theory that he discounted immediately. “I did read someone’s theory about Moriarty’s suicide, which was all based on Grimm’s fairy tales,” he said. “And it would have been a dossier – like a really annotated episode guide. That’s obviously not going to happen because this has to be something for the casual viewer who’s not going to say, ‘Oh I see…’”
He continued, “Sometimes I’m made aware of these things and I think the level of invention is amazing, but it’s amazing that you think it’s going to turn out to be that – because it really isn’t.”
In the fourth season of the BBC show, Sherlock and Watson will be facing “ghosts,” which perhaps meant the return of Moriarty (Andrew Scott). Watson and wife Mary (Amanda Abbington) are also going to be first-time parents.
