‘Sherlock’: Tom Hiddleston addresses reports he would co-star with Benedict Cumberbatch in show
Tom Hiddleston has finally addressed rumours that he would be playing Benedict Cumberbatch’s brother in “Sherlock.” The 35-year-old English actor has been persistently reported to play Sherrinford Holmes.
Unfortunately for “Sherlock” fans who think Hiddleston would be a great addition to the show, there’s not an ounce of truth to the rumours. “The Avengers” star said he was flattered that fans considered him for the role, though.
“I feel very flattered every time somebody wants me to get a role,” he said in an interview with the Tribeca Shortlist series “Outtake.”
“I’ve never been approached to be in ‘Sherlock.’ I don’t understand where that rumour has come from. So you heard it first, everybody: No ‘Sherlock,’” he stressed.

The reports about him playing Sherrington probably stemmed from wishful thinking of fans of both Hiddleston and Cumberbatch. The two English greats would somehow be perfect together on screen, and one way for that to be realised is for Hiddleston to star in the BBC series as well.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original novels did not include a third Holmes brother. There was just Sherlock himself (Cumberbatch in the series) and Mycroft (Mark Gatiss). Sherrington was added by subsequent writers who wrote Sherlock stories.

Meanwhile, Hiddleston has hinted “Thor: Ragnarok” might be his last film as Loki. “Ragnarok” is the third “Thor” film and his fourth time to play Loki (he also played the mischievous character in “The Avengers).

Hiddleston currently stars in the British-American miniseries “The Night Manager” with Hugh Laurie, David Harewood, Tom Holander and Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki. The show is already playing in the UK and will air in the US on April 19 on AMC. It airs in Australia on BBC First.
