Shipwreck Survivors Trying Again to Reach Australia
A number of survivors from the tragedy that struck the boat of asylum seekers from Indonesia on their way to Australia are reportedly trying to take their chance again to reach the country, ABC reported.
A boat carrying about 60 asylum seekers sailing to Australia capsized off the coast of Java last week, killing at least eight people. Forty-eight passengers survived, but most of them were taken by police and immigration authorities to be temporarily checked in at a hotel, but 11 of them escaped.
ABC reported some of those who escaped are raising money and making deals with another group of people smugglers for another trip to Australia.
Police authorities said both boat operators and asylum seekers could each face five years in jail for breaching immigration and maritime laws.
