Australia is shocked to find a dozen neglected children in an incest farm situated in one of the rural settlements of the country.

Some of the 12 children are suffering from disabilities or deformities due to inbreeding for generations. The children are aged between 5 and 15. They were reportedly living with about 30 adults under "very dirty and hazardous" conditions, according to the legal document found by the police. The children have apparently been suffering from intergenerational incest. The alleged child abuse involved generations of a single family for several decades, The Guardian reports.

Each of the children has reportedly gone through years of sexual abuse committed by sisters, brothers, fathers, cousins, a grandfather and an uncle. They suffered the abuse for more than four generations. Authorities, on the other hand, are questioned now why it took them so long to take necessary steps to rescue the children even though there were reports about them.

The family first drew attention in 2010 when the children were reported to be victims of issues related to neglect. The family was alleged for failing to make sure that children attended school. The family also failed to offer necessary medical attention for the children as they had apparently been going through miserable conditions.

The family lived in makeshift camps with no toilet or running water. The children were not even aware of how toilet paper could be used. Some of the children were unable to brush teeth. They also ate with hands. The cooking facilities of the caravan were covered in dirt. The fridge was filled with rotten vegetables. A kangaroo used to sleep on the bed of one of the children.

The children were found to be malnourished and filthy. They could hardly speak. Some of them suffer from intellectual disabilities where some had chronic issues related to sight, teeth and hearing. Social workers and psychologists assessed the children and found them to be engaged in "inappropriate sexual conduct" with one another. Every child, except a 5-year-old girl, was born out of incestuous sex between the women in the family and their blood relatives.

The children are ordered to stay in care until they become 18.
