Even though writer and producer Shonda Rhimes and show creator Peter Nowalk already shared that "How to Get Away with Murder" will push the envelope on gay sex, this still did not adequately prepare some fans for the "gay scenes" from the show. One fan took to Twitter to complain to Shonda Rhimes that the gay scenes in both the producer's shows, "Scandal" and "How to Get Away With Murder," are unnecessary.

On October 19, Shonda Rhimes received an unfavourable comment from a fan of her shows who cannot see the point of "gay scenes" in the said hit TV series. "@shondarhimes the gay scenes in scandal and how to get away with murder are too much. There is no point and they add nothing to the plot," the tweet reads.

Shonda did not let this pass and hit the reply button on October 20. According to the prolific writer and producer, who has "Grey's Anatomy," "Private Practice," "Scandal" and "How To Get Away With Murder" under her belt, "gay scenes" do not exist. Rather, all the scenes produced in the said shows are scenes with people in them.

The writer also told the fan that if the phrase "gay scenes" are used, not only is she "late for the party," but she is also "not invited to the party." Rhimes also used the hashtag "#oneLOVE". Shonda's perceptions on gays and their portrayal on TV have been summed up quickly through this tweet conversation.

Viewers of the show should not be shocked with such scenes, or at least expect scenes of that nature. After all, they were given ample warning by the show creator, Peter Nowalk. He told E! what people could expect when it comes to sex scenes involving gays.

"I knew I wanted to push the envelope, especially with the gay sex," Nowalk told E! "And to me, writing the gay characterisation and writing some real gay sex into a network show is to right the wrong of all of the straight sex that you see on TV. Because I didn't see that growing up, and I feel like the more people get used to two men kissing, the less weird it will be for people."
