A new trailer of “Happyish” features Steve Coogan playing the lead character Thom Payne in the upcoming Showtime comedy series, which was originally offered to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died of combined drug intoxication on Feb. 2, 2014.

After Hoffman’s death, Showtime decided to go on with the project with Coogan taking the lead role. The lead character in “Happyish” is a 44-year-old man whose world turns upside down when he has to work with a new 25-year-old boss.

Meanwhile, with his independent TV production company Baby Cow, Coogan has recently supported Jimmy Mulville and Jon Thoday in their bid to buy BBC3. Mulville and Thoday have sent a letter to BBC’s director of television, Danny Cohen.

Cogan is also set to star in Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin’s upcoming animation comedy “Minions” with Allison Janney and Michael Keaton, who was recently nominated by the Academy Awards for his “Birdman” performance.

Joining Coogan in the “Happyish” cast are Kathryn Hahn, Ellen Barkin, Carrie Preston, Bradley Whitford, Nils Lawton, Sean Kleier, Tobias Segal, Reshma Shetty, Lauren Culpepper, Kevin Kilner, Andrew Bambridge, Jason Harris, Casey Childs, Alison Fraser, Hannah Hodson and Sawyer Shipman, among others.

Created by Shalom Auslander, “Happyish” will premiere on April 26. Among its episode directors are Ken Kwapis and John Cameron Mitchell. Watch the trailer of the upcoming Showtime comedy series here:
