Related to this, the UFC has earlier released a statement saying that Silva’s surgery has been successful and he is on his way to recovery. Here is the official statement from the UFC:

"Following Saturday evening’s UFC 168 main event, former champion Anderson Silva was taken to a local Las Vegas hospital where he underwent surgery to repair a broken left leg. The successful surgery, performed by Dr. Steven Sanders, the UFC’s Orthopedic Surgeon, inserted an intramedullary rod into Anderson’s left tibia,” said the official statement.

“The broken fibula was stabilized and does not require a separate surgery. Anderson will remain in the hospital for a short while, but no additional surgery is scheduled at this time. Recovery time for such injuries may vary between three and six months."

On December 29, Silva (33-6 MMA, 16-2 UFC) suffered a heartbreaking loss when he suffered an injury one minute and sixteen seconds into the second round of his fight against Chris Weidman (11-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC).

Silva broke his lower-left leg when Weidman blocked his kick with Weidman’s left shin, causing Silva to fall on the floor of the Octagon in MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He was immediately rushed to a local Las Vegas hospital for treatment and surgery.
