"X-Factor" pioneer Simon Cowell is in talks with former talent show judge Cheryl Cole to make a comeback.

Cowell is alarmed by the sudden decline in the ratings of "X-Factor" and is requesting that Cole to replace Kelly Rowland, who fell ill and dropped out of the show. The show's ratings declined by 2.5 million viewers compared to figures from last year.

According to Daily Mail, Simon made an offer to Cole that she cannot refuse, although she still has to make a decision.

It seems that the offer is allowing her to be a behind-the-scenes mentor during one of the final episodes when she would give advice to all contestants and guidance on their performances.

According to Cole's representative, the 28-year-old singer is done with "X-Factor." However, he also confirmed that Cowell met with Cole to discuss a one-off comeback when Rowland fell ill.

There were reports that the media mogul was pulling all the stops to get Cole to return to the show because of her popularity with UK viewers. He said that something is missing in this year's "X-Factor."

Everyone in the show is nervous as Cowell is known to be displeased with the current numbers. He has met with contestants and judges alike.

Last week, Frankie Cocozza was eliminated from the show for breaking competition rules. Critics say that this year's batch of contestants is the lowest since the show commenced in 2004.
