Simon Fuller: “American Idol is better without Simon Cowell”
American Idol creator, Simon Fuller asserts that American Idol has progressed better without British mogul, Simon Cowell
It looks like British mogul, Simon Cowell is not missed at the American Idol after all.
In a statement by AI’s creator, Simon Fuller, he said that the departure of former Idol judge has done some good for the show. Though the singing competition has remained the number one television show in the United States, it has suffered in the last few seasons in terms of audience share, as ratings data showed continued decrease in the number of viewers in the last three seasons.
Before Simon Cowell formally left in Season 10 of the show , it was dreaded by some that the show's success would go downhill and get even worse in its viewership, understanding how audience had tuned in through the years to listen to Cowell’s disparaging remarks to the contestants.
But with Simon’s departure from the show at the end of last season, a new format has been introduced - - a style totally different from what the show was known with Simon in the panel. And this according to Simon Fuller has worked.
"The best surprise about this new Idol season is the positivity and energy,” Fuller was quoted as saying by The Sun.
He added that the new season has brought new perspectives also on the men behind the reality TV show.
Fuller said, "All the producers, editors and crew have taken a new pride in the show. Each person focused on making everything they do better.”
The show’s reinvigorated success, said Fuller, stemmed from the new perspectives brought in for the new season.
"We wanted to lose the negativity and be more motivational,” Simon Fuller explained, said The Sun. "We understand this show's success is based entirely on the authentic journey of real people with a passion and a dream, no gimmicks, no spin, no smoke and mirrors."
Fuller also attributed the success of Idol’s new season to the two new judges added in the panel: Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.
"The addition of Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, real stars who also shared that dream, has brought a new level of understanding and empathy to the show,” Fuller noted.
Fuller contended that the two new judges best represents the dream each contestant has, as they walked in and on to the audition stage.
"They can identify with each and every one of those contestants and what it really means to have a dream,” the creator of "American Idol" asserted.
Meanwhile, Simon Cowell has said recently in various interviews that he has yet to watch American Idol’s since he left the singing competition for another British-born reality show, “The X-Factor”.
