Depression Needs Serious Diagnosis
Depression is considered as a complex medical disorder it covers various dimensions like biological, psychological and social aspect of a human being Reuters

College counseling centres are making an extra effort to counter depression among college students. The centres that usually offer support groups as well as one-on-one therapy for struggling students have been facing the growing demand in the recent years.

The current annual survey by the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors concluded that men make up only 33.9 percent of the clients. Males represented only 43.8 percent of the student population at the schools surveyed.

One of the major symptoms of depression is a naturally distorted sense of reality, but the good news is that just like any other problem, an individual can seek a therapy and work on the problems, said the lifehacker.com.au report. The director at Ohio State University ’s Office of Student Life Counseling and Consultation Service, Micky M. Sharma, said, “We cannot just sit inside the counseling center and expect men to come in.”

It’s essential to bear in mind how depression manifests as it varies from person to person. Financial troubles, death of a family member or difference in opinion might contribute to the factors that cause depression, and so can a stressful relationship.

According to the Wall Street Journal report, school officials said, they need to delve deeper into the matter by tracking the places where these men hangout at their fraternities, clubs as well as sports teams.

The counseling-centre staff has been hosting disc golf games at the Ohio state to counter the problem where the players throw a frisbee or a flying disc at the target. At each target, staff of the organisation will ask students questions to spark conversations about mental health in males.

The aim is to teach stress reduction techniques to male student. The centre is planning to introduce “Broga” to the students, which is basically a yoga class for men, led by a therapist who is also a certified yoga teacher.
