“The Simpsons” has aired Mrs Krabappel’s final appearance on the show, and it was sweet and melancholic at the same time. Marcia Wallace, who voiced Bart Simpson’s 4th grade class teacher, passed away in October.

On Sunday, the long-running animated sitcom has paid tribute to one of their most memorable characters with a fitting tribute.

In the 30-second clip, Edna Krabappel and Ned Flanders, the husband she married during the 22nd season, were dancing tango. She was in a strapless red dress, while Ned was in a green suit. After a few graceful twirls, it was revealed that the segment was only in Ned’s mind.

“Ha!” she uttered her signature derisive laugh.

“I sure do miss that laugh,” Ned reminisced as he looked at her photo. He was seen wearing a black armband to honour his second late wife.

Her bully student, Nelson Muntz, then appeared for a comic twist, saying, “I miss her, too.”

Mrs Krabappel first appeared during the second episode of the first seasons of “The Simpsons” in 1990.

Wallace, 70, died from pneumonia on Oct 25, 2013. She had also been fighting breast cancer for 30 years.

A few days after Wallace’s death, the show paid a brief tribute to her by having Bart write a single line on the blackboard during the opening sequence.

“We’ll really miss you Mrs K,” he wrote.
