Sir Norman Wisdom, one of United Kingdom's best-loved comedians, died last night (October 5th) at the age of 95. Wisdom had been in very bad health condition before he finally succumbed in a nursing home in Isle of Man.

In a statement realeased by the family of Sir Norman, the comedian was said to have sustained a series of strokes which caused the decline in his health.

"Over the past six months Norman [Wisdom] has sustained a series of strokes causing a general decline in both his physical and mental health"

"He had maintained a degree of independence until a few days ago. However, over the last few days his condition rapidly declined. He was in no pain or distress and peacefully passed over."

Sir Norman retired from the limelight in 1990, ending a career that spanned six decades and gave him international recognition. Wisdom is best known for comedy films he had done between 1953 and 1966 where he was featured as Norman Pitkin, earning the admiration of Charlie Chaplin who referred to Wisdom as his "favourite clown."

Wisdom was knighted in 2000, and had remained on the Isle of Man for the remainder of his years.
