"Sleepy Hollow" is the new American fantasy, mystery, thriller drama series that premiered in Australia on Network Ten on September 17, 2013. Adapted from Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," the pilot episode of the T.V series was absurd, entertaining and engaging, as well.

The first episode of "Sleepy Hollow" opens at a battleground (Hudson Valley), not of the modern times but of 1776 -- when the late, former President of America, George Washington, was still a General. At the time, Ichabod Crane, played by Tom Mison, British theatre actor and writer, is on a special mission, which is assigned to him by Mr Washington himself. The conscience of British Mr Crane, a former professor of history at Oxford, had pricked him, and he had chosen to switch sides and fight alongside Americans in the Revolutionary War. The mission is not limited to taxation without representation. Mr Crane has the added responsibility of taking down the man, who bears the 'mark of a bow' on his hand, to save the mankind.

At the battleground, he chops off the head of a horse-rider who has the 'mark of a bow' on his hand. The headless rider rises and after a fight, both collapse, intertwining their fate because of some blood mixing logic.

In a spooky cave, Mr Crane wakes-up after being buried for more than two centuries. It is 2013 and it is 'Village of Sleepy Hollow'. Mr Crane almost gets himself hit by a car. Since he is out of the cave, the headless horse-rider is back, too and is looking for a horse to ride. The headless horse-rider is death himself -- one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Sheriff August Corbin (Clancy Brown) and his Lt. Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) are at a restaurant when they get a call to investigate the disturbance reported from Mr. Ogilvie's farm. Abbie finds the body of a man, his head severed from his body, while the Sheriff checks the horse stable. The headless man is there checking out horses and he chops-off the head of the Sheriff, too with a broad axe. The headless man rides away atop a white horse - its eyes have turned red.

Mr Crane finds himself arrested by Andy Dunn (John Cho) when he is stranded on the busy, town road, unable to find a way out. Handcuffed and put under-arrest, he sticks to his true, life story that he is a British man who fought under Captain Washington in the American Revolutionary War. He also mentions about the headless horse-rider, the man with the bow-mark and his original mission to finish him. They are good enough reasons to send Mr Crane packing to a mental asylum.

Captain Frank Irving (Orlando Jones) denies Abbie the permission to interrogate Mr Crane, further but allows her to drive him to the mental asylum. Mr Crane is amused to see a black woman (the salve of his era) in charge of him and also the woman is wearing the pants. Mr Crane and Abbie take a detour from the original plan. The man shows Abbie the cave -- where he was buried holding a Bible. They find the Bible that has a passage about Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He talks about his wife Katrina, the nurse in the army, and remembers his death-bed scene. Later, he finds the grave of his wife and the inscription on it read that she was burnt because of being a witch.

Mr Crane is locked in a room inside the mental asylum and his wife Katrina visits him. She reveals to him that she is actually a witch, a good witch fighting the darkness in Sleepy Hollow. She tells him about the severed head of the headless horseman and that, if the death gets his head back, he will be whole again and the other three Horsemen of the Apocalypse will come to life, as well. These four dark forces will begin the start of the end.

Abbie finds files stacked away by the dead Sheriff in a locked cabinet. They have reports about the mysterious events that have taken place in and around the 'Village of Sleepy Hollow.' One of the files also has a clipping of a report about Abbie and her sister, Jenny when they were little girls. The two girls had seen four white trees and had heard the sound of scary voices before passing out.

Abbie frees Mr Crane, without orders from her senior. The third man's head is decapitated and it is the Bishop this time. Mr Crane unearths the pickled head of the headless horseman -- who cannot function in the light -- from Katrina's graveyard. Andy turns out to be the devil's man and he attacks Abbie and is later arrested. In the cell, Andy is killed by a ghoul who comes out of a mirror and goes right back into it.

Unable to handle the bizarre turn of events, Captain Irving asks Abbie to deal with Mr Crane. Abbie decides to not take-up the pre-decided-option of going to Quantico and leaving the force. Mr Crane smiles when he hears Abbie's decision.

"Truth, sir, we're just scratching the surface here. Whatever this is, it's gonna get a lot worse," she says to Captain Iriving.
