"Smallville" actor sentenced to 1 year in prison for drug trafficking
Actor Sam Jones has been sentenced to a full year in prison for allegedly trying to sell 10,000 pieces of Oxycodone.
The actor was sentenced to 365 days in prison after pleading "guilty" for intent to distribute the large amount of drugs. After his arrest on June 21, the DEA reported the actor was involved in a series of drug deals in 2008 and is a part of a "ring" intending to distribute 10,000 oxycodone pills. In the same DEA report, it was told that the actor was the "Hollywood connection" of the narcotics group. Initially, the star was expected to face as much as 20 years in prison, but his sentence was cut short after an "incident" in the LA courtroom.
According tom TMZ, Jones "begged" the Los Angeles federal court judge to cut his sentence because he already lost his "car, dog and acting gig" since his arrest. The judge "bought" the actor's plea, giving him a short sentence of 365 days. Jones is known for his role as Clark Kent's best friend in the Superman-plotted series Smallville and a starring role in the MTV series Blue Mountain State, which he lost due to the drug charges. The actor is also famous for releaseing a sex tape with then girlfriend Karissa Shannon, a Playboy playmate.
Oxycodone or more familiarly known as OxyContin, is an opium-derived medication for treating moderate to severe pain. It is widely used by many as a way to get "high" trough false prescriptions and drug trafficking. Preferable outcomes include euphoria and a type of dizziness akin to effects of other hallucinogens. Those who use the drug often will experience headache, anxiety, nausea and dimness of vision.
The actor is free for now, and will have to surrender once the court decides which correctional facility he'll stay for a year.
