Smart Gilas Head coach Chot Reyes recently announced his plan to set up a series of tune-up games between the Philippine national basketball team and FIBA Africa Championship contenders.

Reyes, who recently steered the Philippines back to the World Championship after landing the silver medal at the FIBA Asia Championship, believes Smart Gilas' only chance of winning at the FIBA World Cup is against the African nation.

The Smart Gilas head coach spent this last week in Ivory Coast, scouting for future FIBA World Cup qualifiers. The FIBA Africa is currently in the quarterfinal round with continent powers Angola, Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Nigeria all booking their spots in the final eight. On the other hand, Egypt pulled off a stunner against Tunisia in the round-of-16 to make it in the quarters.
