Snoop Dogg, a.k.a. Snoop Lion, has made friends with a few Aussie fire fighters after smoke from the Melbourne hotel where he is staying has set off the fire alarm. It turned out to be a false alarm, but the response wasn’t completely a waste of time because the U.S. rapper has at least had his picture taken with them.

On Friday morning, the 42-year-old hip-hop star, who is in Melbourne for the Big Day Out festival, posted a couple of photos of himself with a few members of the fire department on Instagram. He captioned the first photo with “Fire dept Shut it down!!” leading his followers to think that Snoop was involved in a fire.

“Blew it down!!”

Although some reports claimed that the fire alarm was set off by smoke from Snoop’s room, Snoop apparently had nothing to do with it at all.

Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) Sourth Melbourne Senior Station Officer Trevor Bowen told Faster Louder that the team were called in the hotel to what turned out to be a false alarm. The commotion didn’t start in Snoop’s room, but the “What’s My Name” hitmaker, who is staying in the same building, got wind of the fire fighters’s presence in the building so he took the opportunity to take a photo with them.

“While we were there a very famous guy said to us that he had always wanted to be a fire fighter and he asked us if he could get a photo with us, and of course we knew who it was, and we obliged,” he told the music site.

“He said he was out for the Big Day Out, very nice, very friendly, and if you didn’t know who he was you’d just think he was a normal guy who was having a really happy chat with us.”

Snoop posted the photos on his Instagram account, prompting some people to contact the fire fighters.

Mr Bowen added, “... the coolest part of it was that he asked us for a photo of which we gladly obliged and then we took some ourselves.”
