It looks as if "The Avengers" has finally met its match with Evil Queen of "Snow White and the Huntsman". The film managed to grab one hell of a box-office hit over the weekend with an estimated $56.3 million dollars.

So how did Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth fare in the dark twist to the modern fairytale?

Kristen Stewart's portrayal of the "fairest of them all" has won the vote of the crowd. The film managed to pull off around $20 million dollars higher than what was expected by the industry to come out of the film.

"We weren't even thinking we could do beyond $40 million, especially for a title where you didn't know if the males are going to show up. And they did," explained Nikki Rocco, Universal Studios' Head of Distribution.

"Snow White and the Huntsman" also managed to strike out "Men in Black 3" from the top spot. While the film might be a long way to go before totally beating "The Avengers", "Snow White and the Huntsman's'" reign has just begun.

Exhibitor Relations tallied up Firday to Sunday domestic numbers and the film ranks are as follows:

  1. "Snow White and the Huntsman", $56.3 million
  2. "Men in Black 3", $29.3 million
  3. "The Avengers", $20.3 million
  4. "Battleship", $4.8 million
  5. "The Dictator", $4.7 million
  6. "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", $4.6 million
  7. "What to Expect When You're Expecting", $4.4 million
  8. "Dark Shadows", $3.9 million
  9. "Chernobyl Diaries", $3 million
  10. "For Greater Glory", $1.8 million

The dark retelling of the fairytale appealed to Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron fans, most of whom were women. According to a web survey, around 52% of the audience was over the age of 30 which would count for women rooting for Chris Hemsworth.

So with the success of "Snow White and the Huntsman", is there room for a sequel? Well, Kristen Stewart might have given fans a hint of a SWATH sequel.

"I would do it in a heartbeat," said Stewart in an interview with MTV. "I know with the people involved it would only be done [because] it's very worthwhile and it's a good movie. We wouldn't just be cashing in," continued Kristen.

Yet, the rumored sequel might not be in the plans. As for now, fans are best to enjoy the first film for "Snow White and the Huntsman" and see Kristen Stewart kick butt in medieval action.
