The new remake of Grimm's fairytale is far from the children's story. Snow White is fairer, braver and darker.

One of the highly-anticipated, summer blockbuster films is Rupert Sanders' "Snow White and the Huntsman" starring Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth. We are all familiar with the Grimm's popular fairytale "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," but the remake of the story is far from what Disney told us.

The fairy tale staples such as the dwarfs, the talking mirror and the poisoned apple are all present. But that is where the comparison stops. Here are what the audience can expect from the remake:

Darker Version of the Fairytale

Everything is darker in this film. The queen is more evil. The set is more extravagant than a kingdom on a faraway land. This is more than about the vanity of the queen. The young Snow White threatens the queen's reign that pushed her to have killed.

Real Sets and Props

The film is a product of Rupert Sanders' blood and sweat, literally. The director's blood is used in one of the scenes. Approximately 50cc of Sanders' blood was used in one of the scenes where Charlize prick her finger and droplets of blood fell on the snow. The sets and locations of the film are also real, including the milk bath, deserted Welsh beach, woodland in London's Queen's Park and the snow-covered woodland. The film will be a visual feast.

Braver Female Protagonist

Kristen Stewart starred in the Twilight series without extraordinary powers. In this film, Kristen Stewart will show her fiercer side as she embodied a Joan of Arc-like character. Kristen Stewart learned horse riding for this film. In the remake, Snow White is not a damsel in distress but a warrior princess.

Huntsman's Important Role

In the original fairytale, the huntsman is nothing but a killer hired to kill Snow White. Moved by Snow White's beauty, he let the young lady go in the woods and was dispatched in the rest of the story. In the film, the Huntsman was given a very important role as Snow White's teacher for combat in an all-out war against the evil queen. Hunk Aussie Chris Hemsworth is playing another action-packed role as the huntsman.

Evil Queen

Charlize Theron gives the chill as she looked regal and poised as ever in the remake. She is playing the role of the evil queen trying to kill her step daughter who threaten her imperial rule over the kingdom.

"Snow White and the Huntsman" will be shown in Australian theaters on June 21.
