New York Red Bull and Australian national football team striker Tim Cahill believes the Socceroos have a better chance of qualifying in their next FIFA World Cup qualifier games, which will be held on their home pitch.

The 33-year-old Cahill is still disappointment following their 1-1 draw against Japan on Tuesday. The Socceroos had a chance to book three points in their record, but Japan pulled off a late equalizer courtesy of a penalty goal from Keisuke Honda in stoppage time.

"I think when you look at it we probably would have taken a point beforehand. But it was just hard to take, conceding a penalty that late, but it happens in football," Cahill told reporters after Tuesday's ballgame, according to Goal.com.

Japan became the first team to secure their place in next year's FIFA World Cup in Brazil while Australia (1-4-1, 7 pts) remains in a thick of fight along with Oman (2-3-2, 9 pts), Jordan (2-1-3, 7 pts) and Iraq (1-2-3, 5 pts) in a competitive Group B pool. The top two finishers in the group will advance to the FIFA World Cup while the third place finisher will take on Group B third placer to determine the final representative of AFC to the World Cup.

Cahill said he's confident the Socceroos will find a way to secure another ticket in the World Cup with matches against Jordan (June 11) and Iran (June 18) set to take place on their home turf.

"It gives us the confidence as a group to know that we can play good football. This is a hard stage to play on and also difficult circumstances. But still, a lot of positives to take, which is a good thing going home to Australia," said Cahill.
