The Alpine skiing event kicks off with men's downhill. All eyes are on Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway. Svindal is the defending World Cup champion. He won a silver medal in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver. As for the women's downhill, everyone has a chance after Lindsey Vonn has pulled out of Sochi 2014 as her effort to recuperate from a series of injuries have become unsuccessful.
The members of the Australian ski team, Ross Peraudo, Dominic Demschar, Greta Small, Emily Bamford and Lavinia Chrystal, lead the charge trying to win the first gold medal in Alpine Skiing for Australia, which had only won one bronze medal in the history of Australian participation in the said sport. It will be the first time for Peraudo, Demschar, Bamford and Chrystal to join the Olympic Games.
Who will shine in the Alpine skiing event on the slopes of Sochi, aside from the amazing skiers from European countries like Norway, Austria and France, who are surely a threat to everyone?
